What is the supreme law of the land?

Practice tests

Tests that stop like the real one

On the 2025 test the officer stops once you get 12 right, or 9 wrong. The app's practice tests follow the same rule, so you know where you stand. Every question comes up once before any repeats.

  • Stops at 12 right or 9 wrong
  • Switch to the 2008 test in Settings
  • Instant feedback on every answer

Questions about the citizenship test

What is on the 2025 U.S. citizenship test?

The civics test has 128 questions about American government, history and geography. The officer asks up to 20 of them out loud, and you answer out loud. You also take an English reading and writing test at the same interview.

How many questions do I need to get right?

On the 2025 test you need 12 correct answers out of up to 20. The officer stops as soon as you get 12 right, or once you get 9 wrong. On the 2008 test you need 6 of 10.

Which test do I take, 2025 or 2008?

If you filed Form N-400 on or after October 20, 2025, you take the 2025 test. If you filed before that date, you take the 2008 test. The app includes both; you can switch in Settings.

What is the 65/20 exception?

If you are 65 or older and have been a permanent resident for at least 20 years when you file, you study only the 20 starred questions. You are asked 10 and need 6 right, and you may take the civics test in your own language.

Is the app free?

Yes. The app is free to download and use, with no subscriptions and no in-app purchases. It is supported by ads.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up. Your progress is saved on your phone.

Can I study in Spanish?

Yes. Every question, answer and screen is in English and Spanish, with audio in both. Unless you qualify for an exception, the interview is in English, so many people learn in Spanish and then practice the same questions in English.

Why do some answers depend on my state?

Questions like "Who is one of your state's U.S. senators now?" have different answers in each state. Pick your state in the app and it fills in your senators, representative, governor and capital.

Is this app made by USCIS?

No. It is an independent study tool made by Union25 LLC. The questions and answers come from public materials at uscis.gov.
